Posting by Gyeong Don Lee(W9)

In W9, it is talking about Stratification.

Stratification is interesting topic to me, so this article is very interesting.

There are many topics of Stratification come out of this article, including Socioeconomic Status, Social Class in America, Dominant Perspectives, Intersections of Class, Race, and Gender, Capitalism, class, privilege, and oppression, Capitalism, race and gender inequality, and Global Inequality.

Read many topic of Stratification. I could get knowledge about Stratification.

First, I could know about Socioeconomic Status. Socioeconomic Status is divided into three characteristics: Power, property, prestige.

Power: Power refers to someone’s ability to get others to do his/her will, regardless of whether or not they want to

Property: Property refers to the sum total of one’s possessions as well as their regular income.

Prestige: Prestige refers to the reputation or esteem associated with one’s position in society.

Second, I could know about Socioeconomic Status. Dominant Perspectives divided into two theories: structural-functionalism, conflict theory

structural-functionalism: The structural-functional approach to stratification asks question like What function or purpose does it serve? It contributes all part of society.

conflict theory: Stratification benefits the rich and powerful at the expense of the poor.

Third, I could know about Global Inequality. Global Inequality is talking about the gap between rich and poor country. This part talks about Development and Modernization, Dependency, World Systems Theory. I interested in World Systems Theory. World Systems Theory is similar dependency theory. To sum up, cannot develop Developing countries, because of advanced countries.

Read this article, I could get three knowledge of Socioeconomic Status, Socioeconomic Status, Global Inequality.
