Summary

Read this article I could know about definition of deviance, Theories of Deviance, Crime Statistics, Social Control, and Current Research.

In Definition of deviance, deviance is any behavior that violates cultural norms. Deviance divided into two types of deviant activities, formal deviance and informal deviance. Formal deviance is crime. Crime is the violation of formally enacted laws. And informal deviance is violations of informal social norms. Informal deviance is a relatively.

In Theories of Deviance, There are many theories about a deviation. For example Social-Strain Typology, Structural-Functionalism, Conflict Theory, Labeling Theory. Social-Strain Typology was created by Robert K. Merton. It is divided into five, conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, rebellion. Structural-Functionalism is well known theory. Structural-functionalist approach to deviance argues that deviant behavior plays an important role in society. Conflict Theory is the opposite of Structural-Functionalism. Conflict Theory is more Aggressive more critical than structural-Functionalism. Labeling Theory refers to the idea that individuals become deviant when two things occur. One, a deviant label is applied to them. Another one is that they adopt the label by exhibiting the behaviors, actions, and attitudes associated with the label.

In Crime Statistics, I could see many graph that crime. The graph the most interesting is homicide rates (per 100,00 people) for Select Countries, 2012. Saw this graph, i think the relationship between Socialization and deviation.

In Social Control, Social Control divided into two types like a deviance that formal social control and informal social control. Formal social control refers to components of society that are designed for the resocialization of individuals who break formal rules. And informal social control refers to elements of society that are designed to reinforce informal cultural norms.

In Current Research, there are classified as three. 1. Video Games and Deviance 2. Tattoos 3. Sexual Violence on College Campuses

  1. I think that there exists a clear relationship between socialization and deviation.
People who are not made properly socialized is poor adaptability to society and it can lead to deviant behavior and hostility to society.
That is why it made the correct socialization at the right time is important to stave off a deviation.

  2. Socialization has important role in deviation. People have important time that determine person's personality. So if child grows in wrong environment, he has possibility to be deviant adult.
