Summary

Deviance is the behavior that contrary to the culture in the society. And as every society have cultural diversity and relativity, deviance also has it. Deviance can be divided into two. First, a formal deviance. In other words, it means a crime. The other is an informal deviance. This is not illegal, but refers to action against the norms and values ​​of society. To see the effects and causes of deviance, there are many theories made by sociologist.

1. Psychological explanations

People who acted deviance are mentally different with others. However, it can not be concluded Whether that caused the deviance.

2. Social-strain typology

Robert k. Merton proposed this theory. According to the cause of deviation to the second criteria, deviance is departed into five types. His theory is interesting because it was pointed out that the deviation is caused by a variety of social conditions.

3. Structural-functionalism

it claims deviance will contribute to society. By regulating deviance,it can inform the deviance behavior in society and think that ultimately contribute to social integration.

4. Conflict theory

Deviance will occur by the imbalance force in society. The reason that deviance cause reffers to the lack of power to survive in the society.

5. Labeling theory

it focuses on the individual stamped label. Labeling the people conducted specific act as deviant. Deviant who accepted it is to repeat deviance behavior.

There are social control to regulate the deviance. Formal social control is aim to re-socialization of criminals. And, informal social control is to prevent deviance opposed to the mainstream culture. In resent, sociologist interested in new type of deviance ; 'relationship between violent games and deviance', 'Tattoo'and 'sexual violence in campus'.

Opinion&Question

In this class, I learned about what is deviance. And I suprised that deviance is very various, have a big role in society.  Usually, people think deviance never occur in society. But, because of existant of deviance, we can know more about the part cosist of our society than before. Reading the prezi in this week, I discovered 'Deviance could reffer to the majority labels the minority to 'deviant'.'. So, I think about one posibillity. if the former were possible, would the reverse case also occured ?
