Summary

This article is talking about Socialization. Read this article I could have knowledge of Socialization. According article socialization is a social process that humans to function in social life, and I think socialization can help people, for example more safely and more stability. According to Arnett, Socialization has three goals. A list arranged in 1, 2, 3 order,

1.    impulse control and the development of a conscience.

2.    role preparation and performance, including occupational roles, gender roles, and roles in institutions such as marriage and parenthood.

3.    the cultivation of sources of meaning, or what is important, valued, and to be lived for.

Namely, Socialization is a promise between the person-to-person.

Socialization is a life process, but is generally divided into two parts:Primary and Secondary Socialization. Primary socialization takes place early in life, as a child and adolescent. Secondary socialization takes place throughout one's life. Also socialization divided Broad and Narrow Socialization. Broad socialization is intended to promote independence, individualism, and self-expression, Narrow socialization is intended to promote obedience and conformity.

And I know new knowledge that not all socialization is voluntary nor is all socialization successful. Because

1. all aspects of life are conducted in the same place under the same authority

2. the individual is a member of a large cohort, all treated alike

3. all daily activities (over a 24-hour period) are tightly scheduled

4. there is a sharp split between supervisors and lower participants

5. information about the member's fate is withheld

Look at those, I thought it was similar to a military.

And I know the Importance of Socialization. To sum up if you did not primary socialization, you can’t go secondary socialization. Also I know Theoretical Understandings of Socialization. Like Symbolic Interactionism, Role Theory, Reinforcement Theory, Internalization Theory.

And this article has interesting information. For example, how parents raise their children relative to their social class. lower class parents were more likely to emphasize conformity in their children and middle-class parents were more likely to emphasize creativity and self-reliance. And lower-class parents emphasize conformity in their children is because they experience conformity in their day-to-day activities.

Opinion

Read this article, I realized that It is differ the idea of my childhood, the idea of today. I think that I lived through socialization. Not only that I could know about socialization. Socialization helps us. For example a person that lived through socialization is easy to communicate. So socialization is very important. I’m glad to know about the socialization.

 

Question

I guess that there is a possibility third socialization in modern society, Why not?
