Q) Why as people get richer, they become less rligious.
I think different. I think as people less rely on GOD, they become rich.
People excessively rely on God, are may have less will to works. They don't need to earn much money, because they think that is greed(in many religion, much property are greed). So, as piety is higher, posiibility that people get poor is high.
