what is diviation?

Summary

Deviation is a behavior that violate cultural norms. Deviations can be divided into two types. 1) Crime: This is violation of the law that was officially enacted. This is a formal deviation. <Formal deviation: robbery, theft, rape, murder, assault>. 2) Informal deviation: Trim in a loud voice

Deviation dramatically varies depending on the culture. Cultural norms are relatively.

Function principle argues that deviant behavior has an important role in society. When I was a high school student, I learned the function principle to exclude the departure. So, I felt that a little contradiction.

The main issue of labeling theory is that officially labeling estranges the actors from the conventional society and opportunities. In addition, Restriction of such legitimate opportunities increase the illegal opportunity. However, The labeling theory focuses on secondary deviation. So, labeling theory has a tendency to downplay the deviation of the primary and deviation of the strong.

Mention

I have a critical position for the labeling theory. Labeling theory has various problems.
1)  Lack of social structure eyes: labeling theory downplays importance of the social structure conditions that cause the primary crime. So, Labeling theory downplays the irrational of power and social structure that exists behind the labeling process.

2) Oversimplification: Labeling theory considers the person who are labeled the people who did the deviation. Labeling theory did not consider the difference in different environments that people who were labeled meet.

3) indifference to the upper crime: Aa Labeling theory choices the social bottom layer that lack the ability to avoid the labeling as subject of study, Labeling theory have overlooked the crime of the upper layer that direct the social system. Thus labeling theory strengthen the misconception that crime is exclusive property of the underlying people.

Labeling theory have a lot of problems. However, Labeling theory also has useful features. Labeling theory is a useful theory to explain the lower people of the crime, the lesser important deviation, the secondary departure of people who had been successfully integrated with the conventional society.

Question

Are you positive about labeling theory? Or Are you negative? Please tell us your opinion and grounds.

  1. I am positive about labeling theory. Because it explains well about deviation. Maybe it is not enough to explain every deviation, but I think it is necessary.
