Seventh week posting: Deviance

This week posting deals with deviance. And I summarize it. Deviance means any behavior that violates cultural norms. Deviance is divided into two categories. There is formal deviance and informal deviance. Formal deviance is like crime. Informal deviance is like deviant behavior that refer to violations of informal social normsand norms that have not been codified into law. To understand deviance, there are five theories of deviance. psychological explanations, social-strain typology, structural-functionalism, conflict theory and labeling theory. Psychological explanations explain that research of deviance depends on psychology. Social-strain typology say that deviance based upon two criteria. And conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, rebellion cause deviance. Structural-functionalism say that deviant behavior cause imbalance societal equilibrium. In the process of returning societal equilibrium, society is often forced to change. Conflict theory say that deviance is caused by power and resource imbalances in society. Labeling theory say that deviance occur situation that a deviant label is applied to them or they adopt the label by exhibiting the behaviors, actions, and attitudes associated with the label.
2)Mention
Today, I study deviance. I think deviance means only crime. For example, robbery, theft, rape, murder, and assault. But deviance has a lot of type. And I’m surprised to many theories of deviance. I think that many people have deviance. But deviance depends on the social environment. people in low social class commit more deviance than people in a relatively high class. The present social is very unfair. So, we resolve the unfair social and deviance.
3)Question
And I have question for you. Why do deviance occur?
um.......I prefer Conflict theory. I think that most deviance occur by imbalance.

DeleteI really agree to your mention. The low class people commit many crime than other class member because they have not other means to earn or use the money. So I think,when people have not means to achieve goals(ex)money,card,honor)devience is occured.

ReplyDeleteI think deviance is occur because of the dissatisfaction with their lives and psychology that want to get attention from others.
People who are unhappy in their lives is behavior across society, in order to have an express hostility to the world.
That is, committing a deviant because of any deficiency that they have.

Hard people are because the vicious cycle to live difficult to continue to occur.
