Ahn seo hyeon(안서현) extra blogging : Korea's pedestrian death rate highest in OECD

I thought about why Korea's pedestrian death rate is highest in OECD.
In Korea, pedestrian car accident occurs 50000 times every year.
It is more than three times than OECD average.
I think it's because of transportation system.
Cars have priority than people in Korea's transportation system.
According to law, Cars pause only when pedestrians walk crosswalk.
And installed crosswalks, pedestrian overpasses don't consider pedestrian's traffic.
That's why people jaywalk. Jaywalking usually causes car accident.
In actually, Jaywalking accidents take 40% of car accidents.

Also, Korea's traffic speed limit in city is 60km/h, it is higher than other advanced countries.
Survival rate is lower than 40% when traffic speeds are over than 45km/h.

So government has to renovate traffic system. And people have to change their perception. They have to think pedestrians are more important than cars
