second posting weak2(a.b) - by do hyeon Kim

weak 2 summary, my opinion

Read 1: The first part of this article introduce a va
riety of ways for humans to acquire knowledge. (the example: institutions, experience, a certain logic, tradition, Apocalypse, science.) This article introduces the two things as a way to study sociology. Quantitative research and qualitative research.  When we research society, Quantitative studies usually use a scientific approach. Deductive method is a typical example. In other words, this means empiricism. I knew the basic process of quantitative research. The process is a (Characterization-Hypothesis-Prediction-Testing). After reading this article, I was interesting point that because new evidence and perspectives appear, knowledge is flux state.

In the qualitative study, investigators actually survey in the field and after understanding, they use inductive reasoning. In qualitative research, disadvantage is point that this spends very long time. In qualitative research, insight is important. Scholars of qualitative research use interviews, participant observation unlike Quantitative Scholars.

After reading this article, I was good to be able to make concrete the existing knowledge.

Read 2:  This article speaks about the importance of theory, prominent sociological theory and function theory, conflict theory. The most interesting theory is function theory and conflict theory in it. Function theory like a stable system and reject social change. But conflict theory says that the components of the society is basically to be in conflict with each other. Conflict theory says that these conflict contribute to social change. This theory emphasizes the dynamics and diversity of social conflict. However, They make light of cooperation and the harmony and there is a risk to ignore the survival and integration of society.
