Summary
Politics means way of making decisions with grouped people and founded in among people, corportations, and religious organizations. It is concept which involves 'power, authority and violence'. Let's look about them specifically. Political power is ability to influence others' life to implement distribution of wealth and labour power. Authority is legitimate right to wield that kind of power. Max Weber classified authority into three which are rational-legal authority, traditional authority and charismatic authority. Violence is power that government can wield if citizens do not comply with government.
There are six different types of governments. First, 'Monarchy' is an individual, monarch has all state's authorities. 'Democracy' is based on principle which is equality and freedom(for press and for communication..etc). 'Totalitarianism' is political system that government regulate every public or private aspects of life. Press is controlled and Citizens are under surveillance. Oligarchy is small-elite group has political power. Communist State is domination of Communist, most dictators of Communist state argue they are democratic. Finally, In Theocracy, God is head of state. It is ruled by divine law.
There are two main political parties in USA, 'Democratic party and Republican party'. Sweden is multi-party system. Political power does not concentrate on only one party. Parties make collaboration together.
In this chapter also tells about types of voting and inequality. We can know that women, young people, low-level people and minorities have less power in politics. Lastly, people have some particular ideaology in politics, Conservative and Progressive. These ideologies are mostly affected by biased media.

I was interested in harmony with the things that we learned and the YouTube video.
ReplyDeleteI'll answer your question. The two-party system is dominant in US because two-party system is preferred for a long time so minority could not exert political power. In that tendency, the voters vote for a large parties to maintain a validity of vote. so two-party system has increasingly been firmly.
ReplyDeleteIf the United States applies a multi-party system, politicians who set policies from a variety of perspectives will appear. If so it would respect the political diversity.
Thank you for your additional references. It is so interesting to me. First video tells me that US (which we consider democratic) was merely 16 grade in democracy ranking. This propose some agenda to discuss about 'which system of political party are better?'. According to your video, more than half of the American think they should change their two-party system. Maybe they think a two-party system is too vague to express individual's interest. And I agree with their insists. How about you Jiyeon? How do you think about insists that 'US need major reform in political system'?
