1) my feeling about last lecture.
In this week class, we talk about various questions and think their answer. Among them, there are memorable questions. religion effect at society.& reason that a lot Korean people want to have plastic surgery and so on... I can talk with friends about these questions. And have a discussion about different opinion. Because the opinion is different in each other, we could think various thoughts together. I hope, At next week, we share many thoughts with friends. I'm sure we'll have a good time.
2) The best memorable content in Week3.
This link introduce ‘culture and religion’. ‘Culture and religion’ impact on society.
1- Culture.
The thing, the most eye-catching part of the cultural link, was seen in men who take off clothes. When I saw that picture, I started reading the interesting links and thought a correlation between photography and culture.
After reading this link, I realize that A man was the introduction to describe the culture. We don’t know anything information about that man, when he take off clothes.
But the person wear the garment, we become know even minimal information about that person. In other words, the culture is added by being clothed clothes. So, The culture includes communication between people, belief, art, religion and so on.
The first content of large topic is the type of culture.
First, the 'High' Culture. I introduce The most impressive thing in this paragraph. Since the upper layer which enjoy high culture(ballet, art, music) created the word "culture", they claim that their culture is superior culture compare with any culture(including Native American culture). And culture is easily spread to other groups. My thoughts on this statement is as follows. If culture would not spread to other groups? Maybe we can’t listen the foreign music, we can’t share a famous Paris fashion and we can’t eat foods such as curries pizza and spaghetti. Therefore, spreading of culture induces a variety of culture between many countries.
The second is a sub-culture. Sub-culture is the culture of the various sub-groups within the community. I thought, an example of a sub-culture includes youth culture, black culture and Internet culture. A typical example, Youth culture includes wearing school uniforms, or using their own language
(Example:킹왕짱,ㅋㅋㅋ,버카충
and so on..). In the world, Sub-cultures is endless.
The second content of large topic is the attitude facing the other culture.
The first attitude is Ethnocentrism. They(Ethnocentrism) think that one of the best culture in the world is their own culture. They despise and ignore other cultures. In other words, They saw a different culture from their own perspective. I think, Examples of ethnocentrism is sinocentrism in China. This is a link about sinocentrism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinocentrism.
this link introduce Chinese sinocentrism very well. China thinks themselves; the center of world. Also they think their culture is superior to most.
The opposite is cultural relativism. Cultural relativism is an attitude that each culture embraces the diversity of different cultures. This is quite a different perspective compare with ethnocentrism. For example, we understand and know that the Indian don’t eat the beef because Indian culture sacred cow.
Therefore, we cultivate an attitude; embraces different cultures and have a diversity cultural perspective.
what I've read most impressive w3 link2 is this. The religion was given the justification for repressive society, it become the ability to maintain inequality. In this Paragraph, I think the Hindus of India. https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Hinduism.
It is a typical example of a status system: ‘the Hindu caste system’. Through religion, caste system create the unequal social structures. In caste system, the upper layers govern the lower layers. The upper layer slaves the lower layer strictly and they live a comfortable life. As the caste system was abolished in 1947. so that, In modern society religion should never be a cause inequality.
