1.summary

a)

This culture is closely related to society.
Culture is a great element that allows to establish the identity of the people and be maintained.
And culture encompasses objects and symbols, the meaning given to those objects and symbols, and the norms, values, and beliefs that pervade social life.
Long time ago, the culture was divided into "cultured","uncultured". but time goes by,the meaning of culture was changed by anthropologist in 19th century.
They developed the meaning as a more inclusive notion of culture in the world.
The inclusive notion is that "habit","environment","religion","convention" and so on..
And they recognized culture as not necessarily rigid and totally uniform.
Today, there are two perspective to loo at the culture :thnocentrism and Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism is the tendency to look at the world primarily from the perspective of one's own culture.
Cultural relativism is the belief that the concepts and values of a culture cannot be fully translated into, or fully understood in.
Consequently, culture can encompass anything that provides meaning or can be given meaning among a group of people.

b)

Religion can be defined by three standard point. :"Sacred vs. Profane" ,"Religion as Existential", "Questioning Religion as Supernature"
This point is particularly important in the study of religion because the definition determines which groups will be included in the analysis
Each definition has its merits and detriments. And researcher also very important.
Becasse  the definition of religion employed by a particular researcher or in the investigation of a particular topic depends on the question being asked.
before,sociological theorists proposed theories attempting to explain religion.
these theories approach religion from slightly different perspectives,trying to explain:" the function of religion in society","the role of religion in the life of the individual", "the nature (and origin) of religion"
Religion has many associated with other factors. For example, "gender"," race", "class", "health", "education".

 

2.opinion

I am very suprised that the culture was divided into "cultured","uncultured".
Because i thoght there was no difference about recognition between "culture when long ago" and "culture when today"
And as see the perspective thnocentrism and Cultural Relativism, i think we need to consider compromise plan.
Also I realized that religion affects many things than i think.

3.question

The religion affects many other factors.
I learned that religion like "Protestantism" influence to economy when the Industrial Revolution.
so i wonder how religion influence to economy?
