1) Summary

#A - Culture

Culture is material to human being, because people are using culture to form identity. Culture includes objects and symbols like medias, fashions, religions and so on.
High culture is to think culture as fruit of civilization. But during Romantic Era, definition of culture changes. The definition of culture is wider than before. Not only civilization but also non-civilization is accepted as a culture.
There are many kinds of the culture. Subculture is culture which shared by the minority. Counterculture is culture that some people oppose to main culture.
Attitude to culture divided into two.: Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism. Ethnocentrism is to impose own culture to other countries and race. Cultural Relativism is to revere other culture and to neglect own culture.

#B - Religion
The aim of studying religions is to understand religions and ultimate understand religions include to predict about ultimate aim of religions. Researchers have to define concept of religion because the definition determines which groups will be included in the studies. There are many theories of religion.: Structural-Functional, Social-Conflict, Social constructionist, Religious pluralism, Social-Psychological.

2) Mention

Like last posting, I have some background knowledges in culture. So I didn't have hardship to understand reading material A. But when I read material B, I feel some difficulty because I have no interest in religion. Reading about area that I have no interested is very hard. But I read that. Although I'm not interested in religion, I read well because reading material about religion is concerned with sociology that I feel interested. I first saw theories of religion in reading material B. There are many intereting theories. Theory that interest me most is Structural-Functional. From anicent times, many chiefs ruled them countries or tribes using a religion. For example, Goguryeo was ruled based on Buddhism. Although today accept many religion, effect of religion on society can't ignore. I'll have interest in religion from now on.

3) Question

I wonder what's in effects that religion can on society.Clearly religion effects on society, but I don't know accurately what is in effects.

  2. I think hijab is a good example about religion's effect on society(gender). Hijab, females wear it in Islam, is a classic example of sex discimination.
