# Summary1. Social Movements
(1) What is Social Movements?
Social movements are related with collective behavior and group actions. They usually focus on political or social issues.

There are six theories about social movements.
Deprivation theory argues social movements are down to people who feel they lack resources or goods.
Mass-theory argues social movements are organized by people who feel they are separated from society and unimportant.
Structural-Strain theory argues six factors which promote social movements
: structural conduciveness, structural strain, growth and spread of a solution, precipitating factors,lack of social control and mobilization.
Resource Mobilization Theory argues that social movements developement and success need resources. When people can mobilize enough resources to take action, social movements can occur.
Political Process Theory
Culture Theory brings sense of injustice and argues injustice frame must advance for social movements.
2. Collective Behaviour
Collective behavior refers to social processes and events which do not reflect existing social structure.
'Crowds' are one of the forms of collective behaviour. Blumer classified 'crowds' with four type─casual, conventional, expressive and acting. riot,mob and panic are types of collective behavior.
There are four theories of collective behavior.
First, contagion theory argues crowds make a hypnotic influence on others and make them contagious.
Second, in convergence theory, collective behavior occurs due to gatherings of 'like-minded individuals'.
Third, emergent-norm theory is closely related with symbolic-interactionism theory . When people make interaction with 'crowds', new expectations and norms may occur.
Lastly, crowds as 'gatherings'
A Moral Panic is a feeling of fear spread among a large number of people that some evil threatens the well-being of society.
#My opinion & Questions
While I study this chapter 'social movement and collective behavior', I think of current situation of Korea. Nowadays, crowds do demonstration to resign president Park. But, It is not riots and mob violence. Crowds do orderly demonstration.
