Summary

In the article W13, it deals with family. So I talk about family. But I except for some of the parts included in the article. I hope you understand my summary is not the summary of the full report.

Defining Families

Most people have a group of the form of family. When asked about the definition of family, the answer is simple and quite difficult and complicated. Most people confine their families within biological definition, marriage, and adoption. However, at the age of 21, the form of family became more and more complex. So it is hard to define family.

Families and Theory

1. The Function of Families

The primary function of the procreative families is to reproduce society through childbirth. It gives birth to a child through childbirth, socializes the child and makes it possible to get out of society. However, as the society becomes more modern, the function of procreative families is weakened by the diversification of family.

2. The Sociobiology of Families

Marriage with family is prohibited in all society but a few specific society allowed. Ex) Korea, Japan But ancient Egypt, Hawaii, and the Incan civilization allowed marriage to the family. The reason is to concentrate wealth and power on their family. But why did so many societies ban family marriages? It would have been forbidden to promote social solidarity.

Families and Inequality

I think marriage is an act of desire, so I think there will be equality among the members in the family. But it does not. For example, most women lose their jobs when they get married. But men can maintain their work life. In other words, When married, women should sacrifice professional success and career advancement, but men are not. This is considerable inequalities of situation. This situation can lead to divorce. To solve this situation, it is necessary to improve the education level of women. In the past, women who had a higher education level were higher than women who lower education level to divorce. But this is not the case in the 21st century. Namely, the higher the level of education, the more likely it is to move to an egalitarian family model. This is inequality of Families in gender. Also in Families and Inequality, it has several factors like Religion, race and Ethnicity.

New Developments in Families

Various forms of family are emerging in modern society.

1. One-Parent Households

one-parent households are the most increasing family type in 21th. Increasing factors of the one-parent households are increase in the divorce rate, bereavement with a spouse, and increase in adoption. In addition, a single parent of a divorce cases often have financial difficulties and end up. This is why single parents who are trying to raise their own children are more beneficial in raising their children.

2. Cohabitation

Cohabitation means a form of family that is not legally registered. Therefore, cohabitation, unlike marriage, does not receive the benefits of privilege and government because it is not formally recognized or officially recognized. The population of cohabitation is comprised of people aged 25 to 34, although all ages are included. They predict that have cohabitation will lead to a more stable marriage. But actually it is not. Families living together and married are more likely to divorce than those who have not lived together.

3. Same-Sex Unions

Although homosexuality has existed between humans and animals for thousands of years, official marriage between same sexes is a relatively recent phenomenon. The first recorded case is marriage in Boston, USA, in the 19th century. Same-sex marriage is different from heterosexual marriage. It is older than heterosexual couples and has a higher education level. It also has a higher divorce rate than a heterosexual couple. Most people think children born under same sex couples are more likely to be homosexual. But no. It is less likely to be homosexual than a child raised by a heterosexual couple. But there is a slight difference. It has a complex view of sexuality and has clear answers to discrimination.

4. Childfree

There are no children depending on the choice of some couples or biologically.

Mention

The writing about family is the most interesting and joyful that all article of invitation to Sociology. Until I read this article, I was looking at the definition of family from an old age perspective. But after reading this article, I realized that the word of family was really complicated. I also read this article and learned new knowledge. That's the knowledge of cohabitation. If you get married after cohabitation, they knew the pros and cons of each other, and they could match each other so I had little chance of divorce. I was surprised that the divorce rate was higher than the family who did not cohabitation. Like this, it was good to know various knowledge about family through this article.

  1. To reduce gender inequality after marriage, one should not distinguish between women and men.
The housework should also be shared and the couple should have an open mind that does not keep their spouse in the gender.
