Summary
Collective behavior is social process or event that do not reflect social structure but come from spontaneous way. For example, it is the panic in specific place, rumor, fad, or revolution. It is transient and unconventional, and Its boundary is unclear.
Social movements are social alliances that connected with people who want to block social change or influence social change. There are social movement that attempt to reform society and social movement that interrupt reformation movement.
Opinion
I think that Last week rally in Gwanghwamun illustrate collective behavior and social movement. people had same feeling and belief, and they came together in specific place. It was peace movement, and it had character of reform movement. Also, group of far-right reacted against this movement So they began counter movement.
It may not completely different concept to collective behavior and social movement. If collective behavior involve social, or politic (and so on) beliefs, there is a possibility that collective behavior develop into social movement.
Question
In modern society, Some people recognize all type of social movement or demonstration negatively. they argue that it may include incitement and violence. Also some people think that social movement and demonstration should not occur frequently, It should occur only in very inevitable situation through only peaceful way. What do you think about it?

I think it would be better to protest in a nonviolent form. If demonstrations become violent, it could hurt people who are not involved in demonstrations. Also, if demonstrations become violent, there is a possibility that the protestors' arguements will be distorted because of exercising violence.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wrong to recognize social movements or protests negatively.
ReplyDeleteWe have the right to voice ourselves when we are infringing on our rights or insisting on the improvement of wrongs.
But I think peaceful demonstrations are more right than violent demonstrations.
We must assert what we want in a rational state so that the essence can be conveyed without dimming.
