Introduction to Sociology : Family
-Through my perspective.
Prologue
A family is a social unit that consists of a couple and their children, and it is also the most fundamental unit of society. In other words, it refers to a group consisting of a certain range of people connected by blood, ties, and adoptions. Family has sexual functions, childbirth, education, and economic functions. Families provide a learning environment for their children. People are not only slow to grow, but they are also long. Because of this nature, children must be nurtured and protected by their families for a long time. In this period, they have to learn cultural lists such as beliefs and customs necessary for normal social life, and the educational function of the family is also an essential part of society survival. Therefore, the family plays the role of the smallest socialization institution. In general, family members live together and form a unit of life, but sometimes family members live away from home for a long period of time, for reasons such as studying abroad, education, and others. In addition to this, the point of view of family is very diverse.
My thoughts about Family
I was most interested in marriage, a process that must go through to become a family. Especially about Korean marriage preparation and life. Marriage refers to the relationship between men and women resulting from marriage registration. Marriage is a love marriage that follows the ideology of romantic love, in which women and men meet, fall in love, engage and marry.
I think that Korean marriage process and life have many gender inequalities. Korea still has many sexual stereotypes.
First , it is a bad practice called `man is house, woman is furniture`. When couple get married, it means that the man buy the house where the couple lives and the woman prepares the furniture to be used together. As the tuition and employment difficulties are serious, males are hardly able to pay much more for marriage than females. In addition, men go to the military and go into society two years later than women. Asking men to pay all of their house prices is a way to break a man's will to marry.
Second, it is a "patriarchal" society. It is a family type that man who is the head of the family manages family members with strong power. Women become dedicated workers in the private sector, and men become public officials responsible for social production as wage earners. At present, the patriarchal character has weakened as women's social advancement increases. However, even if couples both work, women still show a much higher share of housework than men. When a woman is pregnant and gives birth, she quits her job and takes care of childcare at home. It is not as easy as trying to go back to work. Not only is there a lack of social awareness, but it also shows realistic impossibility in the system. Many people still think that women should take care of housework.
Qustion
Inequality in marriage is also seen in various aspects of society. They form a family through marriage and make more family members through childbirth. If there is inequality in the family, the most basic socialization institution, I wonder where we can claim equality.
What do you think about this inequality and how do you think it will improve?

Your question is very interesting. Exactly, If there is exist inequality in family, first socialization institution, we may be hard to have right attitude about equality. Even though many people experience in Family, I think we improve it through school education. If people learn about equality correctly in school, the basic socialization institution next to family, We can see hope.
