History of Conflict Theory
In early philosophy, Han Fei Tzu and other ancient Chinese philosophers taught that men are innately weak and lazy. That said, Punishment can control man. so, People with punishment power can control society.
Polybius, a Greek philosopher (205-125 BC), focused his studies on the Roman Republic.
He belives monarchy based on legitimate authority and justice. However, the same problems with men will be exhibited in their kings, leading to corrupt and unjust monarchies. Polybius believed the only way to stop this cycle is to form a government that combines the best elements from monarchies, aristocracies, and democracy, like the Roman government during his time.
Many philosophers believes conflict is essential part of society. Many sociologists contribute to establishment of confilct theory, However, Karl Marx is the best of them.
His idea play a big role in social science's development, socialist political movement.
Althought Karl Marx died as a poor man, His achievements were shine.
Modern Examples
Social Stratification : From a conflict perspective, The social class was created by the material production relations of society. In addition, because the dominant layer formed by this relationship sustain the class to wealth obtained by taking the upper part of production relations, due to labor exploitation of the ruling class of the rulled class and reproduction of wealth system by wealth, we can see that stratification of society continues.
my opinion)
It is amazing that there are supporters of conflict theory. It is not that the support of conflict theory is bad, It is amazing to support only one theory and to reject other theories. I am neutral. I think conflict theory is complementing the limit of functionalism, functional theory complements the limitations of conflict theory. Conflict theory itself is a negative stance. But it makes sense. But if you stick to the theory of conflict, there will be no one in the world to believe. We must live in a balance with the position of function theory.
Causes of war
summary)
Historians : Historians view war as an accidental accident. However, some social scientists criticize that when war happens, leaders make conscious decisions.
Psychological theories: Psychologists such as E.F.M. Durban and John Bowlby have argued that humans, especially men, are inherently violent. It can explain why the war happened, but it is difficult to explain when and how it happened. If humans are going to fight naturally, there is little hope of escape. If there is one alternative, Women have
leadership. Other psychologists have argued that screening processes such as elections can prevent this type of war.
Anthropological theories see if the human society can be reformed, the war will disappear.
Sociological theories : Sociology has long been interested in the origins of war, most theories have contradictions.
Information theories : This theory, developed by international relations scholars such as Geoffrey Blainey, argues that all wars are based on a lack of information. If they know the outcome of the war, the losing side will not try to fight. The Norwegian decision to resist the Nazi invasion was taken with the certain knowledge that Norway would fall. This theory is based on the notion that the outcome of war is not determined at random, but by factors such as doctrine, economy, and power.
Economic theories : War begins for new markets, natural resources and the pursuit of wealth.
my opinion) I was a little surprised that there are so many theories about the causes of war. I just knew that war was just for wealth. But whatever the cause of the war, my thoughts about the war should not arise remain unchanged. Because war, whatever the outcome, is ultimately damaging to humans.
