a) Introduction to Sociology

Summary

Sociology is study of human in microsom and society in wide perspecitve.
Sociology which appeared in early 19th century has a goal of 'understanding' society and human life that are constantly changing. As It is based on social sciences, Sociologists do 'empirical research' to attain their aim. The term 'Sociology' came from named Comte, He aruged that Sociologists must use 'observation' rather than institutions or speculations. That is, It is common that early sociological studies considered the field of natural sciences. Many Sociologists argued positivism. However, Sociologist soon realized it is tough stuff to predict 'human' only in positivism. So, Sociologists adopted 'Verstehen' concept.
Today, Sociology becomes particular perspecitve in studying human, society and life AND positivism sociology and verstehen sociology become 'Quantitative and Qualitative' sociology in methodological approach.

Interesting Points

History of Sociology is interesting because it is my first time to know it.
The point that people got interested in their life, society in 19th century was fact that I didn't know before.

Questions & Discussions

I want to know more about 'sociological imagination' because it is vauge concept to me.
Also, I am curious why early sociologists do sociology in science. In my opinion, It is odd to do research sociological things by science.

  1. I read your posting well. I thought about your question. People studied science earlier than sociology. In science, there are accurate rules. And science follows cause/effect rules. But in sociology, there are exceptions because sociology is about people. So sociology could be developed by this difference.

  2. I'm glad to hear that you could get some guidelines for your future career. Suddenly I am qurious about your future plans, so someday if we get a chance, let's talk about each other's future plans.

You said 'there is one ability that can think differently from others.' May be I think you mean how we could think differently from other people. Am I right? If it is right, I think we could do that through process of studying sociology. Well, when we keep studying sociology, some time a question would pop. we will grasp that question, and think about that question deeply. Maybe then we could get new perspectives or inventions.
