Logo_GENDER.jpg
Social scientists analyze and define the sex, gender in many ways.
This article provide a variety Understanding about these things.

SEX/GENDER
Sociologists distinct a gender and sex.
In general, gender refers to the identity of the men and women that are socially constructed.
That is the province domesticated socially, culturally.
And collectively, the femininity, masculinity

But Sex, refers to a person's assignment, into categories socially constructed on the basis of perceived genetic and biological factors.

This decided on the GO (Government Agency) meeting September 05, 1995, the Fourth Conference on Women in Beijing .

Cis/trans
As compared with the above two words,
Cis and trans were unfamiliar word for me.

Cis sex/gender people are those who conform to the existing notions of sex and gender.
This existing notions refer to social, historical, cultural, political, and scientific context.

Trans sex/gender people are those who do not conform to the existing notions of sex and gender.

There are clear differences between men and women.
First, they have a biological difference.

Biological Differences
In this part demonstrate that The two sexes are some clear physiological differences.
The  average male is 10 percent taller, 20 percent heavier, and 35 percent stronger in the upper body than the average femal.

COMMENT
Females are, statistically, twice as vulnerable to anxiety disorders and depression.
Because of this, Men and women walk the other way.
On the internet deal with a Woman's feelings change or the sensitive think compared with  man.
So..In my opinion, I think these differences comes from the biological difference up to a point.

Social and Psychological Differences
Gender differences vary by society, environment, historical context, and culture, indicating they are social constructions.
This part explains this difference as an example of 'work and occupations'.
Also this explains this difference of 'education'.
All were very logical. And These graphs are helps me understand.

 summary and my opinion

1. Race and Ethnicity

Ethnicity is a result of cultural interaction.
Which means that a person is unique to a certain ethnic group.

The races are rooted in biological classification, such as color or facial features of the skin.
Unlike race, ethnicity is not usually externally assigned by other people.
In the 19th century, natural scientists like Romain Pritchard, James Agassiz, Louis Cowles, and Charles Cuvier made three claims to racial discrimination.

First is that races are objective naturally occurring division of humanity.
The second is that there is a strong relationship between biological races and other human phenomenon.
Lastly, the third is that the race is a valid scientific category to describe and predict the behavior of individuals and groups.

In the past, race was divided by differences in color, face and hair color.
Also, it was universally considered that racial characteristics and intelligence differ from racial characteristics.
However, the advent of Mendel's genetics questioned the scientific validity of racial traits.

Perhaps the best way to understand racial discrimination is to recognize the combination of social and organizational boundaries.
However, the criteria used to classify races are mostly socially.
The debate over racial justice can continue.
Since race can have a significant impact on society, researchers must study at various levels.

2. Gender

Social scientists distinguish between gender and sex.
Gender refers to a culturally recognized social position.
Sex is usually based on categories based on genetics and genetic factors.

In this chapter, focus on the social differences between males and females.
However, it is also important that there is a definite physiological differentiation between males and females.
Gender differences in gender relate to social, environmental, and historical contexts.
Two examples of gender differences are the differences in workforce and education.
Women's participation in labor is changing according to age.
Unlike the past, women's workforce participation is gradually expanding.
It also appears in education.
In the past, there were many higher numbers of men in higher education than women in the past.
As you can see in 2002, however, women's enrollment rates were higher than men.
As a matter of fact, women have made significant progress.

However, there is still a problem with these developments.
For example, women in medicine can see lower salaries.
Thus, there are still differences between women and men.

  3.my opinion

I think there is a stereotype about men and women in society.
These stereotypes have weakened in the past.
However, there still exists a stereotype of men and women.
For example there is a stereotype that 'the occupation of a nurse, nail polish, is a woman's job'.
Although this stereotype has changed as society evolves, I think we still exist in our society.

1) Summary

https://www.emaze.com/@AIQOTIRQ/SEXISM
Today article deals with race, ethnicity and gender. And I summarize it. Race and ethnicity is classified as nationality, tribe, religious faith, shared language, shared culture, shared traditions. And groups that have race and ethnicity have different features. Definition of race and ethnicity is difficult and have many controversy. And race and ethnicity have prejudice problem and discrimination. People have superiority about race and ethnicity. So, group that have superiority persecute and discriminate another group that have less power. This problem is that we must resolve. Gender is classified male and female. In biology, gender is classified as chromosome. men and women is different in many parts. Physical, brain, body classify men and women. So, social classify men and women as work. Sexism is discrimination against people based on their perceived sex or gender and this have problem in society. And many sociologists make theories to see gender difference. structural functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interaction, feminist Theory.

2) Mention

I study race, ethnicity and gender in social perspective. It’s really interesting things. I want to learn more theory. Today, society have many conflicts between men and women, other races. racial segregation exist from long time ago. So, many people try to make improvements racism. But we should be more effort. sexism is big problem in Korea and other countries. We should resolve this problems.

10th week posting : Hyewon Lee (이혜원)

MAIN TOPIC : Race & Ethnicity / Gender

2016. 11. 05 / Hyewon Lee (이혜원)

1_What I learned with tenth  week Wikipedia link.

#Race and Ethnicity

_image/racial-equality-1.jpg
 (search from google image)
Races are the human population that is believed to be distinct from other people in terms of physical differences. Ethnicity refers to a social trait that is shared by the human population rather than by physical characteristics: nationality, tribe, religious faith, shared language, and so on.

#Prejudice, Bias, and Discrimination
Prejudice can refer to a formation of judgment without a direct or practical experience and learning. Prejudice may not translate into discrimination. Discrimination is the actual mistreatment of a group or individual, which is based on some criteria and characteristic. Bias refers to post-judgments or beliefs and viewpoints which are derived from experience that maintain unfair or stereotypical perspectives on a group of people.

#Racism
Racism is widely perceived as an affront to the basic human dignity and human rights abuses. Racism may be expressed individually and consciously or socially and unconsciously.

#Gender vs. Sex
Gender refers to a social position that is recognized or projected within the culturally established designations between male and female actions. Sex is the distinction of biological sexuality, which has the anatomical characteristics of the body

2_Mention & Question about this week study.

When I was young, I didn't know much about racism, and I knew there was a time when black people were discriminated against. Also when I was young, I thought it was not a prejudice that my parents bought me pink clothes and gave me a doll. But as I grow up, I realize how bad these unjust discriminatory behaviors are and how they are in our lives.
I wonder why people don't respect and accept people's appearance. If people can do so, I think discrimination in our society can be alleviated somewhat. I hope we all pay close attention to each other's differences and not discriminate against the difference.

Thanks for reading my posting : )

Summary)

Gender and Sex are different unlike what we used to know. Gender is associated with society, sex is associated with biology.
There are Cisgender and Transgender. Cisgender is a human who coincident biology sex and gender with sociology sex and gender.
And there are clear physiological differences between the two sexes. Because yet how or why these differences develop is unknown, differences could be explained by two ways. Scientific disciplines argue that biological distinctions create these differences. More progressive and diverse scientific communities argue that these differences reflect existing gender inequalities.
Gender differences vary by society, environment. Men and women’s differences involve work and occupations. Women have earned less income than Men nevertheless in modern society women educated and skilled like men. Another difference between men and women is educational attainment. Alike thing mentioned in the front, for a long time, men have educated than women.
Sexism is discrimination against people. Sexism is based on four beliefs: there are only two sexes,  one sex is superior to the others, men and women are very different and that this should be strongly reflected in society, language, the right have sex and the law, it can also refer to simple hatred of men or women or trans people.
About gender differences, there are some theories: Gender Socialization, Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, Feminist Theory.

Race is difference in some way from other humans. Individuals are classified into a racial group rather than their social group. On the other hand, ethnicity refers social traits. Ethnicity focuses more on group member’s past and culture shared in past.
Races were distinguished by skin color, facial type, cranial profile and size, texture and color of hair but the time goes on, definitions of race have changed.
About race, it is understood by two types. One is that race is a social construct. It is based on artificial distinction created by humans. The other is that race is based on nature (fuzzy sets, clusters, extended families).
Racism can be divided to some ways. Individual-level racism, structural racism, cultural racism, historical racism, racial profiling, color-blind racism, genocide.

Mention & Question)

Racism is a really bad things. In Korea, cognizing racism is maybe difficult so maybe we don’t think racism deeply. But in other country like USA, maybe it is very serious problem. Confliction between Black and White can be easily heard by newspaper. Sometimes it result in murder. It make trouble and disrupt social integration.
What’s happen if there is no racism? The crime arising by hostility of other race is not existed. Not discovered talent people because of racism decrease. So racism is ultimately disappeared.
About racism, I have one question. Do you think racism occurs in our society?

Intro

I was thinking about discrimination all as soon as look at Professor given material today. South Korea had a patriarchal social environment alone past.
However, today, women in several ways, has been out have been put out their own voice. As a result, we received the respect in how Korean society. But, you can see to constantly be conflict between the men and women who aspire to traditional values.

 About Sex and Gender

The most interesting was the content in this article, was a difference of just gender and sex. Sex, which means that to distinguish biological properties as XY chromosome or XX chromosome.
On the other hand, Gender is a social role beyond these biological properties are means of being granted. And the position in the function theory and conflict theory was wondering that split opinion according to gender.

Functional theory Vs Conflict theory in Gender

Functional theory, in order to maintain a stable society, femininity and masculinity has claim to the respective functions. However, conflict theory is opposed to this.
Characteristics of the gender they were granted to women and men is a kind of hegemony, it will argue that stepped-down philosophy. They say that woman is obedience to the likelihood of women and claiming that male society to be bound to the masculinity is not correct.

About Racial discrimination

In relation to the race it was often always a problem exist. However, I learned for the first time the origin of racial discrimination through the Read today's article.
After the establishment of the colony of Europe, the whole world, contact to the increase in the other society, it has finally grown the competence of racial and ethnic groups. We are always speaking of racism, we simply think of only whites discriminate against blacks.

However, there are actually also discrimination against ethnic minorities and Oriental people. Definition of a minority group depends on the concrete situation,
but it does not generally receive a great disadvantage to the main population if the minority. They are placed in an unstable state, and the easily absorbed into the dominant group. However, although their absorption is voluntary, in order to advance a better society, and will be called in order to overcome the stigma and discrimination.

I do not discriminate against Easterners have been included in the data, our compatriots have come to now of the West, and to have received a lot of bullying.
Looking at the only Korean, lately, elderly couple restraint incident that happened recently in Canada, you can know that there is a portion that is discrimination because Asians.

In recent many researchers, racism of various forms continue to exist depending on the race, you want to express to the inequality of the various aspects.

My Question

In order to overcome these gender discrimination and racial discrimination, How we can do? What are your thoughts?

W10 : Posting Race and Ethnicity by Jihye Um

In this Wikipedia edition, it deals with Race and Ethnicity.
Races are a human image that is believed to differentiate from other people in different ways, based on physical or imagined physical differences.

Racial grouping is based on biological classification based on human morphology, such as the color of the skin and facial characteristics.
In this article, individual races are said to be generally classified. Rather, they are chosen by their own group, rather than individually chosen by their own identity.
The race is not a physical trait but a social trait shared by the human population is also used for demographic purposes.

Examples of these social traits include nationalities, races, religious beliefs, shared cultures, shared traditions, and shared traditions.
The distinction between typical races is divided into white, black and yellow.

Racism is often debated because it influences social identity and affects social class and social status.

Racism :
The idea of discriminating against others based on the ' race ' they are perceived to recognize or be aware of. Basically, it is a sense of alienation from certain races because it means that humans are divided into different reaces.Racism can also be seen as a sign that people who are different or worse than themselves are thought to be themselves or worse than themselves. Some people who use these ethnic groupings believe that racial segregation can be divided into several layers.

In the past, white people who arrived in the New World used Indian labor as laborers.
The whites drove the Native Americans out of the Americas, taking captive the African continent and turning the blacks into slaves.
He was declared the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, but did not guarantee the right to vote.

However, blacks were eventually guaranteed to be fundamental to the oppression of white human rights in the suppression of white people.
Today, however, there are mostly blacks in the Lower classes of the United States.

We know that racial discrimination is bad.
However, it is our view that the idea of racial discrimination being superior to white is ingrained in our consciousness.

# My opinion

We know that racial discrimination is a bad thing.
Realistically, however, racism is deeply embedded in our unconscious mind.

For example, if a white man passes by, he says, " It sounds like an absolute charm. "
In order to change this, radically change consciousness.
How should we make efforts?
We should remember that all humans are equally equal and respected regardless of nationalities and skin colors.
