Q) Which form of nationalism is more common in Korea
(civic, ethnic)?
I think Korea is
influenced more by the people. As I mentioned earlier, Korea is not the least
discriminated against foreigners. And I think that it is because there is
prejudice and ignorance about certain races, but there is also a custom of
pursuing a single nation for another reason. In the past, Korea has a history
of rejecting exchanges with a very exclusive attitude toward foreigners. This
seems to have remained the same as prejudice to international marriage
multicultural families as well as treatment for foreigners.
Q) What toys are marketed for boys, and what for girls?
What do we
learn through playing with gendered toys?
The gendered
toys that we commonly see are typical of dolls. In the case of a man, he mainly
buys toys that are robust and dynamic, such as robots or monsters. In the case
of a woman, she buys a toy with a cute character appearing in a cartoon or a
movie. Children playing with dolls that have different appearances and different
intrinsic roles differently according to their gender, and children establish
their social identity for their gender.
Q) Has the perception of gender roles changed through
time?
The perception
of gender roles is changing over time. In the past, women's social advancement
was ignored because they were weak, and men took the main stage of society.
However, now that we are in the modern age, housework has become more active
for men and for women to enter society. Although there are socially negative
attitudes toward women, I expect this to be improved in the future as well.
